A Celebration of Celtic and Middle Eastern Spirituality through Music and Chanting
Facilitators: Sister Fionntulach, and Sounds of the Eternal.
Venue: Sanctuary, Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EL.
Date: Friday 25 May 2012.
Time: Registration: 7pm-7.30pm. Event: 7.30pm-9.30pm.
Event Description: There will be two contributions to the evening:
1. Sister Fionntulach.
Sister Fionntulach, of the Céile Dé Order, will share some of the beautiful and haunting sacred chants of her tradition. Some are in either Irish or Scots Gaelic, others still are in Old Irish, the ancestor of modern Gaelic. Some of the chants are long, some are short and almost mantra-like, so there will be opportunities for the audience to join in should they feel moved to do so.
2. Chanting for Peace with Sounds of the Eternal.
Formed in 2005, the Sounds of the Eternal group consists of seven Edinburgh musicians and singers who have a shared vision for music as a force for peace and harmony between diverse spiritual traditions. They invite you to join them in a series of chants drawn from the sacred texts of Christianity, Islam and Judaism, with the aim of emphasising our common vision and encouraging transformation in ourselves and our world. The musical palette features the peaceful and mysterious tones of Middle Eastern and Celtic styles, led by a variety of stringed instruments, clarinet, piano and the vocal power and purity of Suzanne Butler.
